The transfer unit stack is formed by placing the gel and membrane in contact, sandwiched between filter papers soaked in transfer buffer. An electric current is applied perpendicular to the gel and buffer-saturated filter papers, allowing the bands from the charged molecules of the gels to migrate and bind to the membrane, completing the transfer. The transfer time depends on molecule size and the number of transfer units. Multiple stacks can be run simultaneously for efficient Western Blot processing.
